Customer: The color zoning looks quite obvious

Customer: Is there color zoning? If so I’m not keen

Text: It is silk and not color zoning that you see. I think you are looking for a crystal stone. Good luck in your search.

(budget of customer is SGD30k range for a 6ct unheated Royal Blue sapphire)

Customer: Is this Sri Lankan

Customer: What’s the price

Text: Yes it is Sri Lankan. SGD32k firm price. I’m not sure if you can even get a heated royal blue 5ct at this price. We had a very good deal on this that’s why the price is possible.

Text: But we understand when someone has something very specific in mind.

Customer: Yes the price is very good as I have been looking at some others but I prefer less obvious silk. Thanks

Text: Just to share with you from the perspective of a jeweler, there are two types of silk, those you can see when the stone is mounted, and those you can’t. For this stone because the silk is on the side, you won’t notice it when the gem is mounted. Many people do not know because they are not in the industry, but silk only becomes a consideration when a stone is big, above 10ct.

Text: The fact is when a stone is bigger than your pupil, the eye is able to see very clearly. (I call this ‘the eyeball rule’, or the eyeball effect.)

Text: For a smaller stone, if the silk is obvious, they will just low heat it away. The fact that this isn’t heated and is royal blue, says a lot about its quality. It is better to preserve it as it is. I hope this helps in your search. It’s hard to find a stone you love.
