May we see with new eyes, each old thing, each known thing.
Color Study, Stone Study
April 11, 2019 ProcessSIJS
Before we set a stone, I always photograph it first.
I discovered this by chance, finding it very useful in coming up with ideas. Design is in anything when more than one thing comes together. The lens is that one more.
I find that looking at photos you look at light differently. Light from an object to the eye is different from light in study. Color study must consider both.
Custom Work vs Bespoke Work
March 10, 2019 ArticlesProcessSIJS
It is only in 2019 we developed a mindset of having a distinction between custom work and bespoke work.
Recognising this distinction has enabled us to frame our projects, perfect in eliciting a workable budget from a customer and then working to expectations; abuse if without.
The HeART in Revival

The meaning of fun is sometimes very heart-wrenching. It is rooted in what you have or didn’t have as a child. It ignores what inspires you, if only to spite you. So you keep listening to your heart, lead or gold.
Last month I made the long box above to house three rings we made. It is now far away. So many times I was tempted to just leave the rings in ordinary ‘professional’ boxes, then I remember I first liked to make things through paper and scissors. I don’t know how to ‘professional’ with ‘warm’.
Highways

A project involving three rings. This is the first. The face is the size of two knuckles.
For a woman. From her husband. By us. Me. I keep replaying this scene.
This project is very exciting. Because it is one of those projects I get to do what I can feel, and get to do it like that.
Yet every time I photograph the work-in-progress, I am a little astonished.
