The beauty of Chinese jewellery is wearing them small and big. Some very small, some very ‘big’.
For instance, I consider all jade bangles ‘big’. When someone wears a jade bangle, you cannot help but notice the bangle first, however common, or unique.
But when Chinese stud earrings are small, they make your eyes think. Sometimes these are jade studs, sometimes just a pair of solid gold studs with no stones.
This was how the aesthetic in Chinese beauty once implored. Today we understand it as Chinoiserie.
I’m not sure how I feel about this, except beauty flourishes in slow and still ways.
